Neymar describes his World Cup ankle injury as "one of the worst times" of his career

The star of Brazil, Neymar, claims that this is "one of the most trying times" of his life as an ankle injury threatens to end his World Cup.

  • Neymar was hurt in the ankle against Serbia.
  • Attacker is anticipated to miss the remainder of group stage
  • may come back if Brazil advances to the final rounds.

WHAT OCCURED? The forward was taken off against Serbia late on Thursday as his team won 2-0, and GOAL reported on Friday that he would probably miss the rest of the group stage. Should Brazil advance, Neymar might return to action in the final rounds and has pledged to give his all for his side.

WHAT THEY SAID: "I can't convey the love and joy I feel wearing the shirt. Brazil would be my choice if God allowed me to select where I would be born, he stated in an Instagram post. "Nothing in my life came easily or for free; I had to work hard to achieve my aspirations. Never wish anybody harm; instead, aid those in need.

"Today has become one of the most difficult moments of my career… and again in a World Cup. I have an injury yes, it's annoying, it's going to hurt but I'm sure I'll have a chance to come back because I'll do my best to help my country, my companions and myself.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Brazil has had a strong start to the tournament in Qatar, earning three points in their opening game thanks to a double from Richarlison. With Cameroon and Serbia both having 0 points, they are positioned above Switzerland in Group G based on goal differential.

WHAT NOW BRAZIL NEXT? Neymar won't be in the Selecao lineup when they play Switzerland on Monday to open their season.
